911 Emergency Call Services Outages in Multiple States

911 Emergency Call Services Outages in Multiple States (1)

Police departments in states across the country, including Minnesota, Delaware, Arizona, Indiana, Colorado, and others, reported that 911 hotlines were offline on Monday, September 27, 2020. The issues occurred as Microsoft contended with an outage impacting Office 365, Outlook, its Azure cloud services, and other products.  Microsoft downplayed the possibility that an outage that knocked several of its services offline contributed to widespread interruptions in 911 emergency calls service that occurred at approximately the same time.

The exact cause of the 911 service interruption was not immediately clear, but drew immediate scrutiny from the Federal Communications Commission, the agency responsible for regulating communications services. FCC Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel called for the situation to be investigated.  The 911 outage appeared to resolve itself within minutes in many locations, while other departments experienced longer delays. Residents were informed to use text services or call alternate hotlines in case of an emergency.

This brings up a concerning point.  We have all come to rely upon 911 in a multitude of emergencies.  Here at ASR, we have always educated the public to understand that, even 911 can have its limitations during a crisis situation, especially during an active shooter event.  However, NOT having 911 available (even if only briefly) shines a bright light on the unthinkable in an emergency.  THIS is why critical incident response technology is becoming a need, not a want.

If 911 can experience an "outage", even if only for short periods, it is imperative that technology be implemented that can communicate DIRECTLY with first responders during a crisis event like an active shooter situation.

This is where ASR Alert Systems comes in.

Critical Incident Response Technology is technology dedicated to alerting first responders of a crisis situation at a school, business, building, or event (indoor or outdoor).  Reputable alert systems, like ASR, utilize critical incident response technology that communicates DIRECTLY with those that will respond to the event.  This technology, when done right, can send the alerts SIMULTANEOUSLY to the officers and first responders while still sending alerts to traditional contacts such as 911 and dispatch call centers.  By sending the alert DIRECTLY to those that will respond (rather than waiting for a 3rd party center (like 911) to dispatch them) PRECIOUS time is saved which allows those who will mitigate the threat and treat any wounded to get there MUCH faster than ever imagined.

This patented technology will function independently even if 911 emergency call services were experiencing outages.

The PATENTED ASR Critical Incident Response Technology Solution is the Most Reliable Alert Notification System on the Market. There is No Superior Solution. We are the trigger to initiate the response to crisis situations and our patented technology works across all industries in the United States and will work even if 911 is down.

ASR strongly believes that having dedicated hardware that is readily available and easy to operate is KEY when it comes to life-saving tools. By utilizing dedicated sirens & strobes (combined with optional alerts on mobile devices), the situation is clear to anyone. And the response time is going to be incomparably faster and more reliable. ASR does offer a mobile application as a complement to our system, but no system should rely solely on an APP.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • Emergency Presented - An emergency or threat presents itself in your school, business, establishment, or event (indoor or outdoor).  Immediate action is needed to tend to the situation at hand as the clock is ticking.
  • System Is Activated - The ASR Alert System (patented critical incident response technology) is activated via one of the stationary wall-mounted activation points. mobile pendant lanyards or ASR APP. Sirens and strobes are initiated to alert personnel and to disorient the active shooter/assailant.
  • Instant Alerts Begin - Upon initiation, all personnel within the organization, as well as local law enforcement, will receive immediate emergency alerts via text and email notifications. Our critical incident response technology is the trigger to initiate life-saving response from law enforcement.  The trigger happens DIRECTLY to the first responder with all the information needed and does not require a 3rd party like 911 to communicate with those first responders.
  • Quick Response - The nearest law enforcement personnel will be able to move quickly to neutralize the threat and tend to the emergency at hand.  The ASR Alert System saves time by providing the exact location of the threat as well as images from the system cameras.
